Things didn't work out with my boyfriend Kanav Puri: Ameesha Patel

'I'm loving every minute of being single', says Ameesha Patel on her relationship with ex Kanav Puri, on seeing Deepika-Imran starrer Break Ke Baad, brushing aside speculations about any parallels

Ameesha Patel was spotted recently coming out of a suburban multiplex showing Break Ke Baad.

Considering the film deals with after break-up behaviour and the actress has recently split with her boyfriend Kanav Puri, I was curious to know her reaction to the film.

Also, recently there were reports of her being seen at his birthday bash.

The actress however maintains that it was a case of mistaken identity and that she is just friends with her ex. Here she sportingly answers queries about all things break-up.

What did you think of the film?
I quite liked it. It was sweet. Also Danish (Aslam, the director) has worked as an assistant on my film with Kunal (Kohli), so I wish him the best. Both Deepika and Imran are good in the film. I feel a lot of people might identify with the relationship between their characters. There are some moments in the film that real-life couples will relate to.

Did you relate to Deepika's character who puts her career above love in the film?
Not really. I don't think there is anything similar between the two of us. Things didn't work out between Kanav and me because of certain reasons. There aren't any parallels between the film and my life.

Recently, there were reports that you attended Kanav's b'day bash...
People have asked me this multiple times. But it isn't true. I had gone for my friend Kunal's birthday. He looks similar to Kanav, so people thought it was him. Kanav is in London and I haven't spoken to him in months.

amisha-kanav_big.jpg (200×345)

Are you friends with Kanav after the break-up?
Well, I wouldn't say friends, but we aren't enemies either. The break up was mutual so there isn't any bad blood between us. He did call a while back congratulating me on an award I had won. But we aren't in touch on a regular basis.

So you are enjoying your single girl life?
I am loving every minute of being single. Life has been good post break up and I have nothing to complain about. We all go through situations in life that are challenging, but eventually everything works out for the best.

Shahid - PC Break ke Baad

Buzz is that ex-lovers Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra will be seen together in Kunal Kohli's next. Initially Saif was to do the film, but he backed out citing date problems.

Shahid and Priyanka who met on the sets of Kaminey and fell in love separated recently but have decided not to let their past affect their work equation. In fact PC was heard telling friends how she would have a better chemistry with Shahid than wit

The Daily Shuffle:Kim Kardashian's In Hot Water

Kim Kardashian may be the most searched person on Bing, but the credit card venture she and her sisters tried to start up is already hitting a wall and shattering into a million plastic shards. Their prepaid debit cards – dubbed “Kardashian Kards” – venture is under fire for “predatory” fees (and improper spelling). Wisely, the trio has promptly decided to GTFO. -Popeater

Word has it that John Mayer almost derailed the Katy Perry-Russell Brand mega romance. The night before Perry met her British hubby, she was slinging back drinks with the Don Juan of the music world and get this: she was actually really into it. She was even exchanging texts with Mayer on that fateful VMA night when she threw that water bottle of love at his bed-head. -E!

Well this is one way to pay your respects…to your favorite whiskey. Pink spilled the beans about her unborn child’s name – if it’s a boy, he’ll be named Jameson after the delicious amber elixir. Pink’s hubby, Carey Hart is not loving the name, but dude at least she’s not naming him Audio Science or Jermajesty. -Popeater

Can’t a guy wear some leather pants to a movie premiere? Apparently once you near 50, even if you’re as sexy asBrad Pitt, leather pants are no longer okay. After rocking the look at the Paris premiere of Megamind, the internet is in an uproar about the aging (gracefully) actor’s wardrobe. Here’s what’s up: he’s Brad-freaking-Pitt and he can wear whatever he wants. -Us

Harry Potter isn’t exactly synonymous with scandal, but that’s changing pretty quickly. One PostSecret.com user is accusing a Harry Potter cast member of fathering her child. Last week an anonymous postcard featuring Harry Potter stars like Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Jason Isaacs, Tom Felton, Alan Rickman, Oliver Phelps andJames Phelps read "One of these men is the father of the most amazing little girl in the world. He's never met her. He never will. He probably can't even remember my name." Felton and the Phelps brothers have denied the rumors, but the other stars still remain mum. Does anyone else notice that one of these things is not like the others? -Celebuzz

Johnny Depp told Vanity Fair that Disney was worried about Jack Sparrow being too “gay.” Depp even said that they “couldn’t stand” Sparrow and even went as far to ask if the character was meant to be gay. Chill out Disney, I’m sure that the of millions of moviegoers’ dollars that Depp’s flamboyant pirate allowed you to plunder should be enough hush money. -Huffpo

And Charlie Sheen will have to adopt a new strategy to get out of this pickle. Deny, deny, deny doesn’t work when investigators subpoena your medical records from the night of your rumored coke binge. You should go ahead and set up the plans for rehab now. Sorry, Charlie. -RadarOnline

Break Ke Baad Movie Review

brek261110_1.jpg (500×300)

It's complicated' - sighed Himesh Reshammiya when he turned lover boy for 'Radio'. A film about relationships between urban couples, the film went unnoticed. The film's cast as well as its overall set up was blamed for that. Hence, one did have good expectations from 'Break Ke Baad', which again deals with complexities in relationships between urban couples, since the film boasted of a good set up [Kunal Kohli as a producer] and has a far more happening cast in the form of Imran Khan and Deepika Padukone.

Does it work? Partially and that too mainly due to a very good first half and career best performances of it's lead pair.

While Deepika proposes a 'break', Imran sticks on her side, well literally as he stays put at her place with bag and baggage intact till she 'gets back to normalcy'. At this point, one expects some funny incidents to follow that would reunite the lovers. However, this is where 'Break Ke Baad' falters as instead of turning funny, the story turns out to be a huge drag. For 30 odd minutes after the interval point, there is one boring scene after another that actually makes you sink down your seat inch by inch.

Frankly, the movement of storyline here, despite a story being told with a passage of one full year, is hardly interesting and only leads to restlessness and impatience. In addition to that, a subtle side track of Shahana Goswami and Yudi, friends of Deepika and Imran, only turns out to be a distraction. In fact during this entire duration, the lovers do turn into friends but the way their chemistry returns almost to normalcy only makes one kick the floor harder and wonder that why aren't the two reuniting yet.

Thankfully, things perk up towards the last 15 odd minutes from pre-climax onwards. Realisation of true love takes a done-to-death approach with clichés written all over. Add to that some good dialogues mouthed by Deepika and you know what you were missing all this while.

Really, if not for Deepika's terrific act as a young 20 something girl who loves taking risks in life and wants to try out everything before crying that it is all too late, 'Break Ke Baad' by debutant director Danish Aslam wouldn't have been half as enjoyable as it ultimately turns out to be. She gets the best dialogues, the best scenes and the best moments that bring an altogether different facet of her acting capabilities.

While Deepika gets brownie points for her performance, Imran isn't much far behind either. His role required him to stay far more subtle and patient than his beloved and in this regard, he is happy to take a back step without being overtly greedy about trying to get the best lines. As for the others, Sharmila Tagore is just about okay, Lilette Dubey is as usual, Shahana natural but overconfident at places and Yudi irritating to begin with but settling down eventually.

The film has a rich look throughout and one has to compliment the art direction, cinematography and costumes team for that. Background score is good while music by Vishal-Shekhar, though good on ears, brings down the pace of the film at a few junctures, especially in the second half when the going is anyways not as interesting.

This is why one is led to believe that 'Break Ke Baad' could have been a much better film if there would have been some more energy in the second half. No wonder, 'Break Ke Baad' would go down as a film which was a good entertaining watch till the 'break', its very USP, actually happened.

Shocker:Hrithik spends Rs 10.5 lakh to promote himself

Guzaarish1.jpg (200×348)
The Guzaarish star spends on full-page ads featuring himself following producer UTV's decision not to shell out money on post-promotions

If the producer won't, the star will.

Yesterday, Hrithik Roshan shelled out Rs 10.5 lakh to release a full-page ad in a daily that screamed 'Experience Ethan's magic'.

The spread contained tweets from fans who watched his latest release Guzaarish and loved his character, Ethan, a paraplegic.

The 'voices' raved about the movie and in particular, his "amazing acting". Talk about self-promotion!

With producers UTV clamming on the publicity budget as box-office collections are not in the pink of health, the star took on the onus of advertising his character in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's project. Expect more ads in coming weeks.

In bad taste

Moreover, Hrithik decided to use a snapshot of Ashutosh Tiwari, a paraplegic who passed away on November 21 by describing him as a 'true Ethan'. UTV has found it in bad taste and has decided to be totally disassociated from it.

B-Town buzz is that the star is desperate to tell the world that the film may have not worked but he has been loved.

Says a source, "On Monday, there was a sharp decline in collections and UTV was not keen on spending megabucks after the film's dismal opening.

Hrithik decided to pay from his own pocket for the film's post-release publicity centered around his acting skills." Considering he took home a Rs 15 crore fee for the film, this expenditure is loose change.

Adds the source, "The general perception was that the production house released the ads. But they were unaware of his personal publicity gameplan."

As reported (It's possible; HiTLIST, November 16), UTV head honcho Ronnie Screwvala had sent an email, inviting leading B -Town producers for a meeting at Yash Raj Studios to decide the best means to curb rising expenditures while making movies.

Screwvala's main area of concern was the spiralling expenditure on marketing a film which he thinks "is money being splurged on assuaging ourselves (the producers' fraternity) rather than money being spent to enlarge a market and grow the theatrical audience."

What Roshan says

This is ridiculous. How can anyone say I have paid for the ads? Who is saying this? Ashutosh passed away recently and the page will be a beautiful memory for his loved ones. It's an ode to the spirit that he was which changed my life. He was the true Ethan. I attended his chautha last evening and I've received so many blessings from his family.

What UTV says

Siddharth Roy Kapur of UTV states, "Hrithik's performance as Ethan Mascarenhas has been lauded by critics and audiences worldwide. The objective of the ad was to convey the tremendous appreciation the film has received and to recognise the heroism of a real-life 'Ethan'. We are all part of one team and it is irrelevant who has borne the cost of the ad."

Shocker

In the CP-Berar territory, after estimating the total business of Guzaarish, distributors expect it to be less than that of the Mallika Sherawat-starrer Hissss!

Deepika's nasty condom comment deciphered

Bitchy actress called to say, "When Deepika Padukone stated on Koffee with Karan that she would like to see Katrina Kaif's passport, it was not only to decipher her age like most people thought.

She wanted to see the immigration stamps on her passport to confirm that she had travelled to the US to meet Ranbir Kapoor when he was shooting there for Anjaana Anjaani!"

When she said that Ranbir Kapoor should endorse a condom brand, she wasn't referring to his libidous nature.

Says an actress in the know, "RK isn't fond of using protection, and she was making a dig at that."

Bipasha being pampered at the Palazzo Versace

The actress gets pampered at the Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast, Australia

Bipasha Basu is being pampered on the sets of her English film Singularity directed by Roland Joffe and co-starring Josh Hartnett.

The actress has been put up at the Palazzo Versace on the main beach of the Gold Coast a hotel with the signature style and design from the House of Versace.

Bips is housed in a condominium in one of the world's first fashion-branded hotel, known for its luxurious surroundings and beauty. According to a source, the actress asked to be put up at this particular hotel.

Getting her way

Says an insider, "Everyone from the cast and crew are staying at different places.

Roland and Bipasha are in condos while Josh is at a place on the Broad Beach, as he didn't want to be at the hotel. Bips made her preference known and she got her way."

Her condo includes a living room, master bedroom, attached guest room and guest bathroom.

The source discloses, "It has all the amenities of an apartment including a kitchen and enjoys the hotel facility of house keeping as well. Through the day, Bips is on sets and only has dinner at the condo.

There's a chef to cook special meals for her. Though she is not on any particular diet, she is particular about what she eats."

Apart from her luxurious surroundings, the actress is slogging it out on the sets, "It's a hectic as the day starts from 5 am and goes on till 6 pm.

Tuesday was her first day of the second schedule. She is enjoying the new experience. She is training for horse-riding and swimming at the moment and has to start to learn sword fighting and fencing."

Hits or Flops Aishwarya Rai is forever

ash2.jpg (200×345)

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is one of those stars who has carved a niche in the Bollywood film industry in such a way that no matter what her critics have to say about her she always manages to come out of every tight spot with grace and aplomb.

Not very long ago there was some news about most of her movies not doing well at the box office, yet she was considered one of the most bankable stars in a movie, which just goes on to say that she is a very popular star that cannot be avoided even with our eyes closed.

However there are still many who believe that Aishwarya has more of her starry good looks than her acting talent to prove her worth in the industry.

But then if that was the case then how come she still holds the position amongst the top A -grade actresses when many of her contemporaries have laid down their arms and taken a back seat to give the newbies a chance?

Well the fact remains that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has stood the test of time and is now placed on a pedestal where she just cannot be questioned about her star status, irrespective of the fact that any or all of her films fail at the box office or not. Thus her popularity never seems to die down amongst her devoted fans.

'Allah Ke Banday' makes it a point not to glorify crime (Movie Review)

allahkebandayposter.preview.jpg (376×540)

Film: "Allah Ke Banday"; Cast: Naseeruddin Shah, Sharman Joshi, Faruk Kabir, Anjana Sukhani, Atul Kulkarni and others; Writer-Director: Faruk Kabir; Rating: ***

A feeling of foreboding and damnation builds up in the narration from the first frame itself. Here's a gloriously gutsy film exploring the underbelly of Mumbai through the lives of two slum kids who grow up in identical circumstances, but with somewhat disparate values.

First-time director Faruk Kabir displays remarkable skill in creating a pastiche of mammoth crime and little punishment. The pace leaves meagre space for grace. And yet "Allah Ke Banday" creates a world filled with acute aggression, repression and damnation with a reasonable amount of paciness to the edgy narrative.

The world that Faruk Kabir's characters inhabit is reminiscent of Danny Boyle's "Slumdog Millionaire", Irrfan Kamal's underrated "Thanks, Maa", Mahesh Manjrekar's "City Of Gold" and Chandan Arora's "Striker". Deriving its lingering study of juvenile delinquency from these sources "Allah Ke Banday" moves forward and acquires a life of its own.

The gripping narrative takes us through the world of petty crime and underage lawlessness non-judgementally. Faruk Kabir's deeply-felt concern for children who dodder dangerously on the edge of society is never overdone. The director creates a world of uncertainties with unwavering confidence.

The nervous anxiety of the characters is rather aptly replicated in the film's rough and unvarnished look. Kabir's cameraman Vishal Sinha goes through the rugged merciless slums searching for only Allah-knows what. The actors wear their unwashed demeanour casually, so much so that at times we forget the existence of the camera. At the same time, there are uneven sections in the narrative that mar what could otherwise have been a standout exposition on the genesis of social outcasts.

Sharman Joshi and Faruk Kabir play the two driving forces of the plot with a deep understanding of their characters and the milieu. Both seem to have got right their characters' physicality and then proceed to explore their inner worlds. For a first-time actor and director, Faruk Kabir handles both his jobs with more than a reasonable amount of compelling confidence.

The others in the cast merge into the relentless milieu. As usual, the extraordinarily brilliant Naseeruddin Shah is under-used. Whenever he shows up on screen, an extra dimension is effortlessly added to the proceedings.

Notches above the run-of-the-mill entertainer is the genuine concern for juvenile delinquency. The lives on the streets never looked more dangerous and less glamorous. This time, crime is not glorified. Thank god for small mercies.

'Harry Potter' Tangles with Thanksgiving Newcomers

Harry Potter set to tangle with four newcomers for Thanksgiving Box Office Supremacy

Typically one of the most important box office weekends of the year, Thanksgiving offers moviegoers a chance to see new releases, finally see that potential Oscar contender or catch up with films they’ve wanted to see but simply haven’t had the time. This year offers a veritable Thanksgiving feast of choices with last week’s number one film Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 certain to lead the charge with a minimal second weekend drop and a likely $70 million for the weekend and well over $80 million for the five day Wednesday through Sunday time-frame. With IMAX enhanced revenues, by the end of the weekend a 10-day total of over $220 million is in the cards for young Mr. Potter.
On Wednesday Potter 7 led the box office with $14,465,000 and after six days of release has earned $158,532,000 in domestic revenue.

Disney is always a traditional family favorite during the holidays and this year will be no exception with the 3-D release of the animated fairy tale Tangled which is likely to draw crowds young and old to the tune of $30 million for three-day portion of the weekend. This updated story of Rapunzel will likely earn in the $50 million plus range for its first five-days as its appeal to families should be strong throughout the extended Thanksgiving holiday.
On Wednesday Tangled came in second with $11,600,000 in 3,603 theaters in its debut - a very strong bigger-than- expected showing!

Check out our exclusive 'Tangled' themed comic strip from Francesco Marciuliano. Francesco writes the internationally-syndicated comic strip “Sally Forth” and the webcomic “Medium Large.” He was the head writer for the PBS series “SeeMore’s Playhouse,” for which one of his episodes won two 2007 Daytime Emmys. He currently writes for the Onion News Network.

Sony’s Burlesque brings two titans of the music scene together as Cher and Christina Aquilera share the silver screen in this story of a small town girl who comes to Los Angeles to work in a burlesque club run by a veteran of the scene. With appeal to those looking for a musically-themed film with risqué dance scenes and visual pageantry, “Burlesque” should shimmy through the weekend with around $15 million and around $20 million for the Wednesday through Sunday period.
On Wednesday Burlesque danced into third in its debut day with around $2.8 million in 3,037 theaters.

Paramount's Megamind is still a major factor with families and kids for the holiday weekend. The film has been a powerhouse since its debut on November 5 and a 3-D enhanced revenue total of $115.6 million to date.
On Wednesday Megamind took fourth place with around $2.7 million in 3,779 theaters.

Of course no holiday weekend would be complete without and action film for the guys and a romantic comedy for the girls and Fox’s Love and Other Drugs and CBS Films’ Faster are going to duke it out for box office dominance. Both films are rated R and both have strong appeal to their respective target audiences.

Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal will definitely make their mark with younger women who cannot get enough romance over Thanksgiving and their reluctant, but accommodating dates with the aptly titled Love and Other Drugs. Twentieth Century Fox is likely to find itself with over $10 million for the weekend and a romance driven $15 million for its Wednesday through Sunday debut.
On Wednesday Love and Other Drugs came in fifth as it earned $2.2 million in its first day of release in 2,366 theaters.

Fox's Unstoppable is still generating excitement at the nation's theaters for the Thanksgiving movie-going action crowd and the Denzel Washington film directed by Tony Scott is still pulling like a freight train as it approaches $50 million in domestic revenue.
On Wednesday Unstoppable came in sixth with around $1.9 million in 3,209 theaters and thus brings its total to $46.45 million.

Faster features action “go to” guy Dwayne Johnson in this action crime drama that should earn around $12 million for the weekend portion and around $16 million for the first five days as it draws all the young dudes looking to avoid Rapunzel, Burlesque dancers, hopeless romantics and all things less manly at the multi-plex.
On Wednesday Faster debuted in seventh place with $1,581,800 in 2,454 theaters.

This will be one of the stronger performing Thanksgiving weekends in recent memory with virtually every genre being duly represented by wizards, princesses, dancers, heroes, lovers and lots of moviegoers with plenty of holiday induced time on their hands going to the movies.

Bollywood Brats at war!

It may be just a chat show, but in the past three weeks, TV show Koffee with Karan has turned into a virtual battlefield. It all started when actors Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan made some snide remarks about actors Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor during their stint on the show.

A week later, in a clear departure from otherwise sweet and complimentary talk shows, the leading ladies got bitchy with host Karan Johar. While they called Ranbir unsexy and made fun of his playboy image, Sonam also called Imran "immature".

Ever since then, both parties have been making further inflammatory comments in interviews. So much so, that Ranbir's father, actor Rishi Kapoor, told a Mumbai tabloid. "With both the girls it is a case of sour grapes... instead of doing all this, concentrate on your careers." On the show, both Ranbir and Imran ranked Sonam the lowest in terms of acting and sexiness. In response, the girls called Ranbir "unsexy" and made fun of his dressing sense. All parties have since said that all comments were made in "good humour."

Deepika Padukone

Deepika said she would gift ex-boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor "a box of condoms as he uses them the most". She ranked him lowest in terms of sex appeal and said if she ever woke up as Ranbir, she would "go back to sleep" Sonam Kapoor Sonam rated Ranbir lowest in terms of sexiness, saying, "I agree. Ranbir is not sexy. I saw him in a towel during Saawariyan and wasn't interested." She also said that Ranbir made a "bad boyfriend"

Ranbir Kapoor

In an interview last week, Ranbir reacted to Deepika's comments on the show, saying, "If Deepika wants to gift me condoms, it's a great idea." The actor also thanked her for promoting safe sex. Imran Khan On the show, Imran said, "Sonam should concentrate on her acting and less on doing magazine covers." Sonam retaliated in an interview saying, "I can't take him seriously, he is so new to industry."

Shahid Kapoor Mausam ka haal

Oi, what's this now? My kaaliberry has been buzzing all this while but I couldn't hear it. Turns out to be my khabru from the interiors of north India.

He says that Shahid Kapoor, who has been working too hard on his daddy's directorial debut Mausam, its music, etc has landed in Punjab and plans to have fun there because he loves the thanda mausam in the north.

He even plans to savour makke di roti and sarson da saag for the next two months that he spends there. Sonam Kapoor, his heroine in the film, has arrived there too. She took all of Sunday to cleanse her soul, spirit and the bag that she's taken with her to the shooting location. Alright, this schedule should turn out to be a good one!

Bipasha, Josh: Mercury rising!

Hello hello my darling dimsums! If this piece of information is any indication, then it seems like some of her scenes with Josh Hartnett will sure set the screen ablaze when Roland Joffe's Singularity releases next year end.

Reason: Sher Lock Holmes tells me that Bipasha Basu has some very hot scenes with the Sin City star in their Hollywood movie. So much so that Singularity will make Jism look pale in comparison, I'm told. Hmmmm.

Pushy Kat Doll!

Katrina Kaif now has a Barbie modelled on her. Last year, the actor was a part of the iconic doll's 50th birthday celebrations, and the single piece Barbie, launched recently, will have replicas out on the shelves by next year.

Katrina is visibly excited about being Barbie's chosen one from Bollywood. For her, it's a great way to connect with kids who form a large part of her audience, as Barbie has been an important part of every child's growing years.

She says, "My six sisters and I shared a couple of dolls between us. We had our tea parties and our fights too. I remember one time, when my sister, the one who's a year older than me, and I were tugging at a doll and ripped her arm off. That Barbie was never replaced. It remains one of my most poignant memories."

Meanwhile, Katrina is gearing up for the release of her next film, Farah Khan's much-anticipated Tees Maar Khan (TMK). "These days, I'm being called Barbie and Sheila, half and half," she laughs, referring to the sizzling song from the film, 'Sheila ki jawaani...'.

"Yes, I've worn a half-sari, but the song is not so much about clothes as it is about the attitude. That's Farah's strength," she points out. It's an item song featuring a struggling actor with big Bollywood dreams. Did Sheila bring back any memories of her struggling days? "Nooo," she chuckles. "It's a tongue-in-cheek take on our item songs and Sheila is a naive and not-too-clever girl. There was no emotional connect. But I had a blast shooting it and the train sequences."

Rumours have it that she's done a 'Chaiya chaiya...' atop a train. "I didn't," she retorts. "But there are key visuals of the train and the climax was shot around it with me hanging out and Akshay (Kumar) supporting my weight. No, I wasn't apprehensive because action scenes with Akshay are always safe. He's experienced and careful and I trust him immensely. In fact, Akshay and I have had an amazing run at the box-office with films such as Namaste London (2007) and Singh Is Kingg (2008) and I hope it continues with TMK. It would be a great way to end the year!"

The Christmas release, however, has thrown Katrina's holiday plans for a six. "I've made no plans since TMK opens on December 24 and I may be required to do a bit of work promoting it during the New Year too," she reasons. "So Christmas will be here this year. Maybe one of my sisters will join me."

Will she be seen on reality shows to promote the film; KBC, MasterChef, or Bigg Boss? "Maybe one or two, but we won't overdo it. I have no idea which ones we'll be on." There's talk of a sequel? "It's the current fad and Farah's call," she says. "I'd love to work with her again. But for now, the only sequel I'm doing is Dostana 2 and I'm really excited about it." No Race 2? "No," she clarifies. "Remember I was killed in a car crash at the end of Part 1? And since the follow-up has no ghost track, I really can't make a spirited comeback." Touche!

Well, well, well. It seems that going from the picture on the left (and this) to this DOES have a negative consequence on your acting career. Gossip Girl viewers will be seeing less of Jenny, as Taylor Momsen has been put on hiatus by the show and will not be featured in any more produced episodes. So she might still appear in a few, but she won’t be making any anytime soon.

This is of course welcome news to Gossip Girl fans who have become tired of the actress’ off set behavior, which has included, but was not limited to, dressing in very inappropriate attire for a classy show, excessive drinking, and bashing other actresses around her age. Her role of Jenny has been delegated to a peripheral spot as of this season, so it is not assumed that she will be missed.

But from all the male viewers who are forced to watch the show with their girlfriends, there's the WHY?. So she’s rebelling a little. Who doesn’t go through a little goth phase and get really into punk and dress really weird? Let the kid have her fun. Except for the whole drinking and drug stuff. Kids shouldn’t do that. And the clothes she wears? What, like your mom never complained about the stuff you wore? Come on. Wait. She’s 17? And she’s been doing this for how long? Holy cow, get that girl a bible and a sweater, she needs a lesson or something. That’s just crazy. And wrong.

Hard Targets

In Summit Entertainment’s Fair Game, the government is out to get Valerie Plame, a covert operative ousted and exposed by the Agency because of her husband’s potentially damaging claims against the Bush administration. I’m very sympathetic to Mrs. Plame’s situation, but she’s hardly the first figure to be targeted by a country’s corrupt government. Check out a couple of Hollywood’s Hard Targets below.

V For Vendetta
"V" from Warner Bros. Pictures V For Vendetta

Valerie Plame went through a hell of an ordeal after being earmarked by the US Government, but her troubles seem trivial compared to the torturous trials that unseen V endured at the hands of a totalitarian British regime. Of course, all the political capital in the world couldn’t stop justice from being served and those responsible for his imprisonment were held accountable.

Robert Redford"Joseph Turner/The Condor" from Paramount PicturesThree Days of the Condor

Bookworm/analyst Joseph Turner was wholly unprepared for the carnage that awaited him when he returned to his NYC CIA office from lunch. The execution of his colleagues leads to a lengthy and lethal journey for the truth, which is hardly comforting in the end. Through gunfights and double-crosses, Turner manages to outsmart his pursuers, who just happen to work for the Agency as well.

Munich"Avner Kaufman" from Universal Pictures/DreamWorks Pictures Munich

Following the devastating events of the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre, a handful of Israeli specialists were charged with the task of eliminating members of the radical group Black September who were responsible. The problem was that half way through their mission, the agents started to get killed off and the remaining renegades begin to suspect foul play – possibly involving associates within their government and authoritarian allies who had supported them.

The Parallax ViewJoseph Frady from Paramount Pictures The Parallax View

Joe Frady dug deep to uncover the shocking truth about the death of a high-profile senator, but his discovery leads to a much larger story about a SPECTRE-like multinational corporation behind every major global event. The more he finds out about the Parallax Corporation, the more dangerous things get. So the government may not be after him in this case, but these days who can tell the difference between big business and the executive branch?

Syriana"Bob Barnes" from Warner Bros. Pictures Syriana

Barnes was so loyal to his country that it cost him his relationship with his son (and eventually his reputation), but even a trusted CIA agent like himself can be victimized by the government after a conscience-changing epiphany. The line between right and wrong had been blurred and Bob tried to fix a complex situation involving a multi-billion dollar oil merger, a quarrel within a royal family and American interests in the Middle East. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful in his endeavor, proving that when it comes to corrupt governments, the good guys can't always win.
